Jane Carver has a full page of exhibition credits and awards she
has won. She was accepted in her first museum show at the age of
19. Her paintings have been in jurored exhibitions at the Whitte
Museum, San Antonio, Tex., Philbrook Art Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma Museum of Conservative Art, Oklahoma Art Center, Oklahoma
City and in many other exhibitions in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado
and Kansas.
The artist is from San Antonio, Tex where she was a protegee of
noted southwest portrait and circus painter, Lesle Larsson. She
studied Commercial Art at the San Antonio Vocational and Technical
School and continued fine art studies at the San Antonio Art
Institute and Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. She
also attended workshops with Charles Reid, Connecticut, Don Coen,
Colorado, Millard Sheets, California, Robert Kapelis of New York
University and author of "Learning to Draw:, Robert Lougheed,
noted western artist and Jack Vallee of Oklahoma City.
The paintings below were from a period of 8 months of painting in
Ireland. She lived alone, as the Irish say "on her own" in a
cabin in the mountains of West Cork. Jane lived under primitive
conditions, burning coal and peat for heating fuel, carrying water
from a stream and getting the feel of the land and the people and
existing much as her Irish great grand parents in all probability
did.
Carver met with people of many nationalities while in Ireland
as a large mixture of Europeans have settled in West Ireland lured
by the beautiful countryside and the mild southwest climate.
Weekly marketing was done mainly in the village of Dunmanway.
Living in one of Irelands most scenic areas, Jane found she did
not have to range very far to find a myriad of subjects for
paintings. At almost every turn in the road are ruins of castles
and abbeys, deserted farm houses, rock walls, bright villages,
standing stones and manor houses that tell of a rich cultural and
often tragic history.
As a long-time goat breeder, these prints capture one of her
favorite subjects. The goats are pictured on this mountain
pasture on Nowen Hill, County Cork, Ireland. The prints are
on canvas and mounted on gesso board and framed, and are available
in two sizes.
